On Friday, Filth and I went and climbed Little Ascutney utilizing the steepest possible slope (for the most part). We climbed about 1300 feet and covered about two miles.
On Saturday, we went up Mount Washington via the Tuckerman Ravine Trail and descended the Boott Spur trail. Our total ascent was 4800 feet and we hiked 9.0 miles. The weather was incredible.
Click on the photos to see the pictures I uploaded for each day. In the Flickr interface, click ‘all sizes’ to see the original uploaded size except for the panoramic views… After selecting ‘all sizes’, click ‘original’ for those. They are very large files. Also, in the original size you can see where the cheap trial stitching software (Ulead 360) put the images together.

Thanks for retrieving my Nalgene bottle.

That was him, not me. I’d have left it rather than climb down that treacherous ice field.

The other part was:
I can’t believe Bx was going to leave it.
(Bx, don’t worry about coming back over, my ‘ is working again)

Ooo! Pretty!

I’m off to a 5′ elev gain and 1/2 mile stroll w/ dogs. yawn

you’re welcome, RK. but, it was my pleasure. i just needed an excuse to ditch my pack and scamper about on the rock and ice. i know that bx is generally lazy, but he probably would have gone down to get your water bottle if it wasn’t for a little incident on the lion’s head trail a couple of years ago. i wasn’t there, but i heard something about bx going off trail to retrieve his dropped water bottle, breaking through the snow and suddenly finding himself 25 ft. off the ground in the branches of an evergreen tree. bx hasn’t wandered off-trail ever since.

Wow! Neat, or ouch! I just read about how to detect and avoid such traps (from the comfort of my toasty warm couch). If you’re not broken or bloodied from that kind of fall I’m betting there’d be some fabulous photo ops.

Nice evil pig helmet

Bx seems to be better at the “a five-dollar
wineglasswater bottle is not worth a trip to the emergency room” equation than some…November 27, 2006 at 20:37
Wow, gorgeous. So that’s what the view from Mt.W looks like — I would definitely like to go up there again when it’s not socked in!

Filth and I discussed the seemed-nearly-fatal rescue of the water bottle when you and I were returning down Lion’s Head from the summit.
You’d think I’d learn to clip in those bottles, or something.

We should drag Filth up this winter… He’s never been up past Huntington in the snow.
November 28, 2006 at 14:57
a slip there wouldn’t have involved a trip to the emergency room. a body bag would have done the the trick. but, my record of preserving drink containers of all kinds remains unblemished.

i’m up for it. do you have a full body harness and a comfy sled? seriously, i’d prefer to summit via an easy ice route, like yale or central. since it’s low angle stuff, i’d be willing to lead it and run it out a bit, so we could move pretty quickly. (good pro can be so time consuming, ya know?) save the lion’s head for the descent. however, i expect that you may not have a high comfort level with that plan. also might be too complicated with a party of 3.

Given that I didn’t even understand that sentence, I am guessing I am not qualified for it.

guessing he’s talking rope rigging with the pitons and stuff

I get the general drift, but my learning curve would be steep.
December 7, 2006 at 18:11
steep. so to speak.

thank you, I was hoping someone would pick up on that. Was bx a slow pup or just not so inclined?

Ouch.
