Rooster Comb Trail, Adirondacks

A friend of mine is considering upgrading to a DSLR.  My opinion is that a point and shoot is just fine, especially when it makes the difference between getting the shot or not.  To illustrate my point, here are a number of my favorite photos.  All of these were shot with Casio Exilm cameras; 6 or 10 megapixels.  Not that I wouldn’t love to have a DSLR but I wouldn’t have it in my pocket when I wanted to take a picture.

At a housefire in Weathersfield, Vermont.  This photo was shot after my camera was dropped in the mud and stepped on; try that with your DSLR.  (EX-Z300, 10 MP)

The landlord at my place in SF has instituted a lease and come up with a list of new rules. Rule number one is the best one.

Just to be obnoxious, I affixed the list of rules to the back of the door. Click for the legible version.

Many people have been concerned about Naked Baby for the past few years. In the interests of quelling this groundswell of discontent, I hve decided to divulge Naked Baby’s whereabouts; Naked Baby is in San Francisco. In fact, here are few pictures of Naked Baby in his current home city and environs.

Here is Naked Baby on Market Street, waiting for the ‘F’ car.

Here he is at the Civic Center plaza.

Here he is downtown.

Naked Baby and Adam went to dinner in the Mission.

I’ve upgraded.

I’ve only found one serious issue so far; a database modeling tool that I use won’t start. It displays the splash screen and then hangs.

I’ve posted on their forum; hopefully they will fix it soon. Conveniently, I did need to make a change to the structure of one of the databases I maintain; I made the change on Friday before upgrading.

Other things I’ve found…

– Some system profiling tools that run in the menu bar won’t start
– My (ex-)current screen saver won’t run

On the other hand, things do seem to run faster. Well, Gimp starts up slower. Everything else runs faster.

UPDATE: Turns out I was running an ‘old’ version of DBVA.  I’ve updated to the most recent version and now DBVA loads fine and incredibly quickly.

Someone told me yesterday that they called me and that my voicemail box was full. I checked my messages today and found twenty-two new messages from the last six weeks. No missed call notifications, no voicemail notifications, nothing.

Apparently this issue is widespread with iPhone users. Why didn’t AT&T notify me that they were having issues?

Last week, the car reached 200,000 miles.

This week, the left rear wheel stopped turning. They came and dragged the car onto a flatbed this morning. It will be getting new brake rotors.

We got the car in December 2000; I think it had three miles on the odometer when I picked it up. We have driven it an average of 1,923 miles each month since then.
